The enormity of our collective loss calls us to faith in each other.
We are all deeply impacted by the tragedy of those lost to COVID-19: of mothers and fathers who have left children behind, of grandchildren grieving their elders, of young people deprived of life’s experiences. In moments when we confront the joy that has been prematurely taken out of our world, we have the chance to lean into our faith in each other.
The country marked a devastating milestone in our fight against COVID-19 – more than 500,000 lost. In Missouri alone, over 8,000 people have died in this once-in-a-century virus. This number is almost too much for us to bear, too unfathomable to think about.
I pray for all who were taken from us; for those currently battling the virus; for anyone feeling the lasting effects of their fight with COVID-19; for the front line workers; and for the scientists who continue to work tirelessly to put an end to this pandemic.
The president conveyed that in order to heal, we must remember those we have lost. We will mourn them and the lives they were not finished living. In their names we will continue to persevere and move forward through this pandemic. We will continue to fight the virus and we will pray.
Missouri, my personal prayer that you remain healthy and safe during this trying time in the world. Together, we will make it to the other side.
